Gastroenterology in Faridabad

Gastroenterology diagnoses and treats digestive, liver and gallbladder conditions in Faridabad, supported by endoscopic and imaging diagnostics.

Conditions treated

The Gastroenterology department assesses and treats conditions including these. Where we have a page explaining a condition, it is linked.

  • Acidity and reflux
  • Abdominal pain
  • Gallstones
  • Liver disease
  • Jaundice
  • Constipation and IBS

This describes the scope of the department. It is general information and not a diagnosis — please speak to a doctor about your own symptoms.

About the gastroenterology department

Digestive symptoms are extremely common and easy to dismiss — acidity, bloating, irregular bowels. Most turn out to be benign. A minority are the first sign of something that needs treating properly, and telling the two apart is what this department does.

We assess and manage disorders of the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder and pancreas, working closely with general surgery where an operation is the answer.

When to see a gastroenterologist

Come in for any of these. The starred ones should not wait.

  • Vomiting blood, or black tarry stools — come to emergency
  • Severe, sudden abdominal pain — come to emergency
  • Difficulty swallowing, or food sticking
  • Persistent acidity, heartburn or reflux, especially if medication no longer helps
  • Recurrent abdominal pain, particularly after meals
  • A lasting change in bowel habit, or blood in the stool
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin, or dark urine with pale stools
  • Unexplained weight loss, or loss of appetite
  • An abnormal liver test result

If you are not sure, treat it as urgent

It is always better to be assessed and sent home than to wait at home with something serious. Emergency care needs no appointment.

What we provide

  • Acidity, reflux and stomach problems

Finding out why symptoms persist rather than treating them indefinitely with antacids.

  • Liver disease

Assessment and management of fatty liver, hepatitis, jaundice and abnormal liver tests.

  • Gallbladder and pancreatic conditions

Diagnosis of gallstones and pancreatitis, and coordination with general surgery where removal is needed.

  • Bowel disorders

Investigation and management of constipation, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Endoscopic assessment

Looking directly at the lining of the digestive tract where symptoms warrant it, and taking samples if needed.

  • Investigation of abdominal pain

Systematic assessment of pain that has not been explained, rather than repeated courses of symptomatic treatment.

How we investigate

Digestive diagnosis usually combines blood testing, imaging and direct endoscopic assessment.

  • Endoscopy to examine the upper digestive tract, and colonoscopy for the lower
  • Abdominal ultrasound and cross-sectional imaging
  • Liver function and hepatitis testing
  • Stool testing where infection or bleeding is suspected

What to expect

So that nothing about the visit is a surprise.

  1. 1

    Consultation and examination

A detailed history of your symptoms, since digestive complaints are distinguished largely by pattern and timing rather than examination alone.

  2. 2

    Investigation

Blood tests, imaging or endoscopy, chosen to match your symptoms rather than run as a routine panel.

  3. 3

    Discussion of what we found

What the results show and what the treatment options are, including where surgery, arranged with general surgery, may be the right answer.

  4. 4

    Treatment and follow-up

Medication, dietary change or referral for a procedure, with review to check it is working.

Frequently asked questions

When is acidity something more serious?

Get it assessed if it persists despite treatment, or comes with difficulty swallowing, vomiting, weight loss, anaemia or black stools. Long-standing untreated reflux can also damage the lining of the food pipe, which is worth knowing about early.

Is endoscopy painful?

It is uncomfortable rather than painful, and is usually done with sedation or a throat spray so most people tolerate it well. It takes a few minutes, and you will be told beforehand how long to fast and when you can eat afterwards.

What does a fatty liver mean?

It means fat has accumulated in the liver, very commonly alongside weight gain, diabetes or high cholesterol. In its early stages it often causes no symptoms and improves substantially with weight loss, activity and control of blood sugar. Left unaddressed over years it can progress, which is why it is worth acting on when it is found.
