Patient Rights & Responsibilities

Every patient at Goga Ji Hospital has the right to clear information, privacy, dignity and a say in their own care.

Your rights as a patient

These follow the principles of the Charter of Patients' Rights adopted by India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

  1. 1

    Information about your condition

To be told your diagnosis, the proposed treatment, the alternatives and the expected cost, in language you understand.

  2. 2

    Informed consent

To have any procedure explained before it happens, and to give or withhold consent — except where an emergency makes waiting unsafe.

  3. 3

    Emergency care

To receive prompt emergency treatment without being turned away pending payment.

  4. 4

    Privacy and confidentiality

To be examined privately, and to have your medical information kept confidential and shared only with those involved in your care or where the law requires it.

  5. 5

    Dignity and non-discrimination

To be treated with courtesy and respect regardless of your religion, caste, gender, age, disability, illness or ability to pay. Women have the right to the presence of a female attendant during a physical examination by a male practitioner.

  6. 6

    Your medical records

To receive your records, investigation reports and a discharge summary, and to obtain copies.

  7. 7

    A second opinion

To seek another clinical opinion, and to have your records made available for it.

  8. 8

    Transparent billing

To an itemised bill, and to be informed of rates for treatment and services in advance where they are known.

  9. 9

    Choice of pharmacy and diagnostics

To obtain medicines and tests from a provider of your choosing, rather than being obliged to use the hospital's.

  10. 10

    To be heard

To raise a concern or complaint about your care, and to be told how it will be looked into.

What we ask of you

Care works better when it goes both ways.

  • Give accurate and complete information about your health, medicines, allergies and previous treatment
  • Follow the treatment plan agreed with your doctor, and say so if you are unable or unwilling to
  • Treat staff, other patients and their families with respect
  • Respect other patients' privacy, and hospital property and rules
  • Keep to visiting arrangements and the number of attendants allowed
  • Settle bills for services received, as agreed

If something goes wrong

If you are unhappy with any part of your care, please raise it with the department first — most things are resolved fastest there. If that does not settle it, ask at the reception to escalate the matter, and we will tell you who is looking into it and when to expect a response.

Something not right?

If any of these commitments has not been met, tell us — we would rather hear it than not.
