Frequently asked questions
Do tonsils always need to be removed?
No — most people with sore throats do not need surgery. Removal is considered when infections are frequent and severe enough to disrupt school or work over a sustained period, or where enlarged tonsils are obstructing breathing during sleep.
Why does my nose stay blocked all year?
Persistent blockage is often allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, or a structural cause such as a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates — and sometimes a combination. They are treated differently, which is why examination is worth more than another course of the same medication.
Is sudden hearing loss urgent?
Yes. Sudden loss of hearing in one ear should be assessed within days, not weeks — treatment is considerably more effective when started early.
